Kostaa 1) When the Sonambulists massacred his family, Gen was eight years old. You would think that eight is too young to devote ones life to revenge, but ghosts don’t care – didn’t care, and Gen swore vengeance just to be able to sleep at night.

2) He graduates at age eleven and doesn't kill until he is fourteen. That is when he knows all is lost. He joins the Silent Rose. He never calls it 'home'.

3) Do you see the difference between murder and suicide? Gen doesn't.
He is fourteen years old and he has just killed a man for the first time. It is messy, and blood is staining his right arm and blood is splattered on his face. It is still warm. There is some on his lips, and he licks it off.
He smiles darkly at the tang, and he loves it. He loves it.
His ribbon is fraying; and only Athena can tell.

4) He does not look in a mirror for two and a half years after this because he doesn't want to look himself in the eye.
When he finally does, his first thought is instinct – sonambulists are coming what where why how could they be here – and when he spins around to meet them (ninja reflexes there), there is no one.
He looks back at his reflection, and he sees them in his face again.
Something snaps in his heart.
Something snaps in his mind.
He stares at the mirror. He hasn't been sleeping at all and the carved bags under his eyes make him look like the Sonambulist leader.
He is fifteen years old and he is quite sure that he will never be able to hate himself more than he does at this exact moment.
He is wrong.
So very wrong.

6) Doesn't it make you want to laugh, little one? Doesn't it? Gen is so wrong about so many thing and it doesn't even matter. He is so warped by so many things and it doesn't even matter.
Doesn't it make you want to laugh?

10) They are all ninjas. Ninjas do not break and they do not cry and they do not wake up from midday naps gasping for breath.
He knows it is irrational. He knows why he does it. He knows he is letting this change him. He doesn't care.

13) He has done these things because he was told to. He is what all ninjas are: a murderer for hire. He is not a healer - not a medic. He doesn't know how to give life. He thinks once, during a mission to assassinate the Silent Rose mage, Snow, that he doesn't even remember how to live.
It's a sign of how far he has gone that the thought doesn't really bother him.
