The Shadow has remained silent through the altercation between Esther and Athena, wrapping his cloak about him and standing. His head moves slightly as he switches between who he is looking at. Other than this, he remains completely still and silent. A faint wind seems to blow through the ears of Esther and Athena as Esther demands a way out of the portal filled maze of a room.
"I would also appreciate an answer."

"Well," says Athena slowly. "One would expect you would go through a door.. It is more convenient than coming through the window -- though, I believe, some people have been known to do that."

Cheers are heard from the window, a conversation ensues and is overheard "High commander, the Firestarters are retreating to the west." The High Commander responds: "Get the troops together to gather the wounded and dead." A third voice is heard: "What of the Firestarter's sir?" The High Commander thinks for a while, the speaks: "Let the living run, sedate and treat the injured, and bury their dead." There was no argument over the last statement, and then the High Commander speaks again "Who was it that led that group? I heard that Howl had fallen." The first voice responds "It was his sister, sir." The High Commander stands, silent: "Give her a medal. and make sure her brother's possessions are handled with care. Send word for a memorial to be made for Commander Wyther and the rest who died here."
Footsteps are heard, and the area in front of the window is cleared. The battlefield is being cleaned of the injured.

General Roderick called his remaining troops into a retreat "Fall back to Crater tower! Fall back!" his lead assassin had failed him, and a large group burst through the front lines and started incapacitating his mages, healers, and archers. He was outnumbered now, and his forces scattered. He feared that the Sonambulists would leave none alive if they fought it out, he turned to his lead lieutenant "I will take full responsibility for the retreat, now GO!"
The white flag had been raised.

((Now that that's dealt with...))
The Shadow stands, his cloak rustling dramatically as he stands. The windy rustling noise is heard again, and some might recognize it as a snort projected through the psychic volumes of his mask. His right hand twitches and the window he entered through shatters, and a knife falls to the ground in front of it. The Shadow walks over to it slowly and picks it up. It vanishes in his hand. He turns to Athena and Esther, and they both feel a slight chill run down their spine as he turns to leave. If either of them try to stop him, they feel certain, their death will be assured and painful (assuming either of them don't resist the effect). He vaults through, and lands in the middle of the Sonambulist army. He had been an effective deterrant before, crashing through their lines with impunity and showing them the meaning of fear and skill.
The shoe was now very much on the other foot. Luckily, the Shadow doesn't wear shoes, so the metaphor doesn't apply to him as he leaps into the air, assisted by his artificial legs, and joins the retreating Firestarter army as part of the rearguard.

{{Eh. Screw it. This is getting boring.}} Esther ignores the fact that there aren't any other doors in here besides the ones that lead to the closets and the voices, and instead ops to fuel her anger into a hugely explosive and magical force that she channels into her sword. "Goodbye, Athena, Branwen," she whispers, then lets out a long scream that will leave her throat raw for days after. She releases the magic and stabs the wall. Wood and marble flies everywhere. Dust of otherworldly origin engulfs Esther and Athena. When it settles, an enormous hole in the wall gapes in front of Esther, who doesn't bother looking at what's behind it and leaps into it.

Athena sighed, and started gathering materials to fix her window. It was going to be a long day indeed.
